About Us

In 2006 Pastor James Bowers and his wife Janet had a vision to start a mobile soup kitchen, and so the idea of God’s Chuck Wagon began. After doing some research, they discovered that 50% of the people in Northumberland County live at or below the poverty level. Their mission is to see that no one goes to bed hungry, especially children.  In October 2011, they made a pot of soup, put it in their car and parked on Independence Street in Shamokin. That evening, they served 20 people. Now they are not only serving soup, but have also added sandwiches, drinks, dessert and give away bread to those in need.

The Bowers helped open the Shepherd’s Table and God’s Grub, both are soup kitchens in the Shamokin Area.  God’s Chuck Wagon serves approximately 100 – 200 people nightly in the Sunbury, Shamokin, Mt. Carmel, Kulpmont, and Trevorton areas from their Mobile Soup Kitchen (AKA: a converted school bus). Running solely on donations, they hope to one day have a fleet of mobile soup kitchens and a home office in Shamokin, PA.
